The youth injured in a collision between a police car and a motorcycle in Hulhumalé Phase II remains in critical condition and is on ventilator support, according to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
The accident occurred on Thursday night and left an 18-year-old severely injured. Both the police car and the motorcycle sustained significant damage.
In a statement, the police confirmed that the injured youth held a driving licence, which had been impounded on 21 December 2024 for violations of the Transport Act.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, including assessing any potential negligence by the officer driving the police vehicle. Authorities have expressed concern over such serious accidents and have pledged to take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
