Police are investigating the officer driving a police car involved in a collision with a motorcycle in Hulhumalé Phase 2, which left an 18-year-old youth critically injured.

The accident occurred around 0150hrs, damaging both vehicles. The youth, who was seriously injured, is currently receiving treatment at IGMH, where his condition remains critical.

In a statement, police revealed that the motorcyclist’s licence had been revoked on 21 December 2024 for violations of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Authorities are now examining whether negligence by the police officer driving the car contributed to the accident. The police noted that such incidents are a serious concern and assured the public that steps will be taken to prevent similar accidents in the future.
