A foreign fishing vessel that illegally entered Maldivian waters has been located using a drone.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) tonight, the MNDF (Maldives National Defence Force) stated that the fishing vessel was found during an operation to monitor the Maldives' Exclusive Economic Zone. They also mentioned that after locating the vessel using an EACO drone, it was brought under the Coast Guard's custody.

However, the MNDF did not specify which country the vessel was from. They also did not mention the area where the vessel was found.

Foreign fishing vessels illegally entering Maldivian waters are spotted from time to time. However, this is the first time such a vessel has been located using a drone.
