The former Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, Ahmed Saeed, has been charged.

The Prosecutor General's (PG) Office stated today that under an agreement between Fenaka and a private company, Blazon Inc. Private Limited, Fenaka had released payment for work that Blazon had not completed and without verifying the completion of the work.

The PG's Office also said that this action resulted in a loss of MVR 848,000 to Fenaka.

In this case, Saeed is being charged under Article 513 (b) of the Penal Code for misuse of official authority.

In addition to Saeed, the PG's Office stated that Mariyam Dheena Salih, who was the Procurement Head of Fenaka at the time, has also been charged under Article 513 (b) of the Penal Code for misuse of official authority.

The PG's Office said that the basic punishment for this offense is one year, seven months, and six days of imprisonment.

The cases against both individuals were sent to the Criminal Court today, according to the PG's Office.

During Saeed's tenure as MD, complaints were filed with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleging that he used his position's influence in awarding projects for building powerhouses and office buildings on some islands. It was also alleged that projects were awarded to companies in which some senior Fenaka officials held shares.

The ACC is currently investigating some of these allegations. In connection with these cases, Saeed's passport has also been withheld.
