Bank of Maldives (BML) in collaboration with the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) has awarded the Sports Scholarship opportunity to Aishath Himna Hassan, a star of the national athletics team.

BML opened the scholarship opportunity to associations for high-performance training of sports athletes. While the MOC facilitated the opportunity for the scholarship, they also evaluated the names submitted by the associations.

Himna has shown distinction in athletics from a young age, with her biggest achievement coming in 2022. That year, competing in the Commonwealth Games, Himna broke the 21-year-old Maldivian women's 100-meter sprint record. This was previously held by Samha Ahmed.

Additionally, Himna also won the national athletics championship that year. Himna will now complete a year-long training under this scholarship. The training will take place at Sprintec Club in Jamaica, considered the most successful country in sprinting.

Himna has previously completed international training sessions, and her record was broken this year by Mariyam Rooya Ali.

Coinciding with its 40th anniversary, BML also provided scholarship opportunities to seven athletes last year, including those in athletics, badminton, table tennis, and tennis.
