Velana International Airport celebrated the arrival of the 2 millionth tourist to the Maldives this year, marking a significant milestone for the country’s tourism industry.

The special guest, an Austrian woman, arrived with her husband and two children. She was greeted with a festive welcome featuring traditional Boduberu, dances, and other activities. In honour of the occasion, she received gifts from the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Immigration, and Customs Service.

Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, MMPRC Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuri, MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Controller of Immigration Mohamed Shaman Waheed, and other senior officials attended the celebratory event.

This milestone marks the successful achievement of the government’s goal to attract two million tourists in 2024. Building on this success, the government now aims to welcome 2.2 million tourists in 2025.
