Housing Development Corporation (HDC)'s board member suspension has been lifted following the appointment of Mohamed Mauroof Jameel as its new Managing Director. The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) confirmed the decision today.

Last week, all HDC board members, except Chairman Ahmed Nasif, were suspended to allow a police investigation into alleged irregularities in the "Binveriya" scheme. Former Managing Director Fazul Rasheed resigned on Saturday after being suspended.

Mauroof Jameel, appointed on Sunday, has extensive experience in housing and infrastructure, having previously held key roles in the Hulhumalé Development Unit and HDC, as well as serving as Minister of Construction and Public Infrastructure.

The investigation focuses on allegations that land was allocated outside the scheme’s rules, with Fazul Rasheed and his brother, Ibrahim Fazeel Rasheed, among those implicated. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has seized the passports of 20 people involved in the case.

Police recently raided Fazul’s residence and seized electronic items for the inquiry.
