The Maldives women's football team is preparing to play two friendly matches against India.

According to an announcement by the All India Football Federation, the two friendly matches between the Maldivian and Indian national women's football teams will be played on the 30th of this month and on January 2nd. Both matches are scheduled to be held at the Padukone-Dravid Centre for Excellence in Bengaluru.

After completing extensive training under the coaching of Mohamed Nizam (Nizambe), the Maldives women's football team recently competed in the SAFF Women's Championship. In their first match of the tournament, they lost 1-0 to Sri Lanka but showed a good performance. However, they suffered heavy defeats against Bhutan and Nepal in subsequent matches.

The Indian national women's team is also not in its best form currently. Out of 10 matches played this year, they have won only three and lost four. India was eliminated from the SAFF Women's Championship after losing 4-2 to Nepal.

Additionally, although India reached the final of the Turkish Women's Cup 2024, they lost in the final to Kosovo, a team ranked much lower than them.
