President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he has great trust in Mohamed Mauroof Jameel, who was appointed today as the Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and that he is an honest person.

Mauroof was appointed to the position of Managing Director of HDC following the resignation of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed yesterday. Fazul resigned amid allegations of allocating land to certain individuals against the rules of the Binveriya Scheme and selling plots in Hulhumale at discounted rates without bidding to some members of PNC's PG Group.

While Fazul was suspended over this issue, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had also withheld his passport.

In an interview given to journalists outside the President's Office today, the President said he would not hesitate to stop any corruption or illegal activities. He also mentioned that he had previously instructed relevant authorities to take action against various individuals in such cases.

"I appointed former minister Mauroof Jameel to HDC today. He is someone I trust greatly, who will maintain full integrity. He is someone who works with full commitment and professionalism," the President said.

He stated that he wants to appoint honest individuals like Mauroof to government positions. The President also expressed confidence that HDC will improve in the future and arrangements will be made to prevent the recurrence of current issues.

"I am certain that HDC will improve in the future. Some people have been dismissed from there today. I don't want any institution to have room for corruption or for those who engage in such activities," the President said.
