Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has refuted claims that residential plots in Hulhumalé were sold in violation of bidding procedures.

Recent social media discussions alleged that some plots were sold at significantly low prices to certain lawmakers from the Progressive National Congress (PNC) without a bidding process.

In a statement released last night, HDC clarified that all land sales in Hulhumalé were conducted through public announcements and an open bidding process. The process began with interested buyers submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the available plots.

HDC explained that after EOIs were submitted, bidding was opened to the participants, and the plots were sold to the highest bidders by the bidding deadline. The corporation also noted that EOIs had to be submitted at a price not lower than the base rate, which was determined by the HDC board.

HDC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and adherence to established procedures in the sale of land.
