Hussain Sageef has been elected as the President of the Maldives Media Council (MMC).

In yesterday's vote to elect the President and Vice President for MMC's eighth term, both candidates vying for the presidency received seven votes each, resulting in a tie. The candidates for presidency were Sageef from "Thiladhun" and Fathimath Shana Mohamed from "Mihaaru".

In yesterday's vote, Ibrahim Mohamed, an individual member, contested and was elected as the Vice President. He ran against Ibrahim Fauzy, another individual member, for the position. Ibrahim received nine votes, while Fauzy received five votes.

Today, a revote for the presidential position was conducted. In this vote, Sageef was elected as President with eight members' votes. Shana received seven votes.

Sageef, who was elected as the MMC President, had also served as the Vice President during the sixth term.

Members for MMC's eighth term were elected on the 7th of this month. As five members' terms had not expired, only ten new members were elected.

The Media Council consists of a total of 15 members, including eight representatives from media organizations and seven members elected from the general public.
