Criminal Court has sentenced a Maldivian man to 12 years and six months in prison and imposed a fine of MVR 50,000 after convicting him of drug trafficking.

The Court delivered the verdict following a case filed on 15 August 2023. The case arose from a tip-off that Abdulla Ahmed was transporting drugs on the 'Furaagu' launch, which had departed from Jetty No. 1 in Male’.

Initially, Abdulla denied the charges. However, he later entered into a confession agreement with the Prosecutor General’s Office. This confession led to his conviction and sentencing.

The court ordered Abdulla to pay the fine of MVR 50,000 within 12 months.
