The State Trading Organization (STO) has given assurance that the quota rights for staple foods imported from India have not been given to any other party.
In response to discussions about sugar containers that were supposed to be imported to the Maldives from India, STO's Media Official Yoosuf Shah said that none of STO's shipments have been lost.
Indian newspapers have reported that sugar containers exported from India to the Maldives were fraudulently imported into Sri Lanka, and India's Foreign Trade Authority has begun investigating the matter.
Shah said that the quota allocated to STO has not been given to any other party and that STO has received all the shipments they have ordered.
Furthermore, Shah said that India has not suspended sugar exports to the Maldives. He also stated that neither STO nor the Maldives has any involvement in this issue.
India is one of the main countries from which the Maldives imports a large quantity of staple foods.
