The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) board appointment process has been expedited, with the deadline for public complaints shortened to 1800hrs. This follows a parliamentary review of four candidates nominated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for the MIRA board.
The list of nominees was presented during Monday’s parliamentary session and referred to the Economic Committee for further evaluation. Initially, the committee had decided that public complaints regarding the nominees could be submitted until 1200hrs the following day.
However, during a committee meeting held today, Chairperson Ali Fazad noted the urgency of the matter and the need to accelerate the process as the parliament is functioning during the holiday season. Horafushi MP Ali Moosa proposed shortening the complaint submission deadline to 1800hrs., a motion supported by Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas. The proposal was approved by the committee.
Following this decision, the committee plans to hold an 2000hrs. meeting to interview the nominees.
The candidates nominated by President Muizzu are Dhaha Shuaib, Abdulla Imran, Mahboob Saleem, and Aminath Afiya.
