Aasandha, the Maldives' universal health insurance programme, has extended its services to hospitals in Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a recent announcement on X, Aasandha revealed agreements with The World Medical Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, and Burjeel Medical City in Dubai, UAE. These partnerships aim to provide Maldivians with access to quality medical care under the Aasandha scheme.
President Mohamed Muizzu had previously emphasised the importance of diversifying the countries where Aasandha services are available. In January this year, he expressed his commitment to expanding Aasandha to reputable medical institutions beyond the Maldives, ensuring access to quality healthcare across multiple regions.
This initiative fulfils the President's promise to include Thailand and the UAE as destinations for medical treatments covered under Aasandha. It reflects the government's continued efforts to enhance healthcare options for Maldivians and reduce the reliance on a single country for medical services.
Patients can now seek advanced medical care in these countries under Aasandha, offering greater flexibility and choice for those requiring specialised treatments.
