Maldives Police Service has concluded a significant anti-drug operation, Operation Veshi Rakkal, in Fuvahmulah City, achieving notable results since its commencement on 14 January 2024.
The operation involved investigations into 4,048 hotspots, questioning 1,147 individuals, and arresting 58 suspects. Charges against 75 individuals were reviewed, with investigations for 65 cases submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Authorities uncovered networks linked to drug trafficking and money laundering. Two individuals were arrested under court orders for suspected money laundering, with one suspect found to have conducted transactions exceeding MVR 21 million over five years and another totalling MVR 7 million in two years.
Further investigations are underway into 21 individuals and two companies implicated in money laundering activities.
The Maldives Police Service expressed gratitude to Fuvahmulah residents for their cooperation, underscoring the critical role of community support in combating drug-related crimes.
