Chief Magistrate Ahmed Muaviyath Qasim of Ukulhas Magistrate’s Court has been suspended by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) as part of an ongoing investigation.

The suspension, which took effect on November 27, was announced by the JSC in a statement addressing concerns about the judge’s credibility and the potential impediments to the investigation should he remain in office.

The JSC noted that the decision was based on evidence presented during the investigation but did not provide specific details about the nature of the case against Magistrate Muaviyath. The Commission also refrained from disclosing information about who will assume charge of the magistrate's court during his suspension.

While the reasons behind the suspension remain undisclosed, the JSC has assured that the decision aligns with its commitment to ensuring the integrity of the judiciary and the proper handling of the investigation.
