The total number or tourist arrivals to Maldives this year has exceeded last year's record number.
Last year, 1,878,543 tourists visited the Maldives. As of yesterday, the number of tourists who visited the Maldives this year is 1,877,567.
With the tourists who have visited the Maldives so far today, this year's total is now higher than last year's total. While the number is now close to 1.9 million tourists, the total number of tourists who visited today will be confirmed tomorrow.
Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal said in a post on X today that he is proud that the number of tourists visiting the Maldives this year has exceeded last year's, and thanked those working in the tourism industry and the tourists for achieving this.
"I will remain committed to working towards achieving this year's goal, the target of two million tourists," Minister Faisal said.
Looking at this year's statistics, tourists spend an average of seven days in the Maldives. And more than 5,400 tourists visit the Maldives per day.
As of yesterday, the countries that sent the most tourists to the Maldives this year are China, Russia, and the United Kingdom. While 254,354 tourists visited from China, 208,946 tourists came from Russia. And 164,183 tourists visited from the United Kingdom.
India, which sent the most tourists last year, is now in sixth place on the list. So far this year, 117,292 tourists have visited from India.
