President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that work on constructing an airport in AA. Mathiveri will begin next year.

During a meeting with the residents of Mathiveri today, as part of his ongoing trip to some islands in AA. and K. Atoll, the President said this year no projects were implemented because the budget prepared by the previous government did not provide opportunities to carry out projects. The President also said that this year's budget is nominally a budget prepared by the previous government.

The President said that the budget passed for next year is one that fulfills his promises. As such, the development of an airport in Mathiveri will begin next year.

"Even from an economic perspective, and for this atoll, this constituency, and this region, it is very important and economically viable to build an airport on this island. So, I can assure you with certainty that among the new airport projects to be given priority next year, the construction of an airport on this island will proceed," the President said.

The President said that as part of his policy to connect different parts of the Maldives, an airport needs to be developed in this region.

The President said that with the development of an airport on this island, new doors will open for local tourism. It will also bring development to the island and progress in other areas. The President also said that nearby islands and the atoll will benefit greatly.

The President has requested the Island Council and the Ministry of Construction to work together to prepare the concept and plan in consultation with the people and complete it quickly.
