President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has praised the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) for its efforts in improving the lives of South Asians since its establishment. The President shared these remarks in his message on the occasion of SAARC’s 2nd Charter Day.

In his message, President Dr Muizzu extended greetings to the SAARC Secretary-General, member countries, and the people of South Asia. He emphasised the importance of the principles outlined in the SAARC Charter, which aim to promote peace and prosperity across the region.

The President called for renewed efforts to address critical challenges such as climate change, public health, and economic development. He also highlighted the need to focus on sustainable development, innovation, improved infrastructure, and better connectivity within the region.

Reaffirming the Maldives’ commitment to SAARC, President Muizzu pledged to work towards a stronger and more effective organisation that fosters a bright and prosperous future for the people of South Asia.

SAARC, which comprises eight member states in South Asia, was established on 8 December 1985.
