Alleged text messages from the number of the MP for North Hithadhoo constituency, Mohamed Aslam, that says he has decided against running for Speaker of Parliament upon the request of the former President Mohamed Nasheed, has started circulating.

This message was sent to the phones of some of the journalists at One Online as well.

The message reads:

“Upon the request from the President Nasheed, I have decided not to candidate for the Speaker of the 19 session of the parliament. To support Afeef on his (President Nasheed’s) request.”

When One Online journalists asked about the message, MP Aslam denied sending the message and aid that the message holds no truth to it. He said that such things are the norm in the political field when running for an important position such as the Speaker of the Parliament.

MP Aslam said that there has been no change to his decision to try and become the Speaker of the Parliament.
