A resolution has been submitted to the People's National Congress (PNC) High Council today requesting that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu be awarded the party's presidential ticket for the 2028 presidential election without holding a primary.

The resolution was presented to today's High Council session by general party member Abdulla Ibrahim.

In presenting the resolution, Ibrahim highlighted President Muizzu's achievements since assuming office, including safeguarding national sovereignty, ensuring no foreign military presence remains on Maldivian soil, and enhancing the nation's maritime surveillance capabilities. He also noted the implementation of robust economic and reformist measures to address national financial pressures and debt without burdening citizens.

Additionally, the resolution cited efforts to diversify the economy, introduce modern technological initiatives such as "Digital Maldives 2.0," tackle housing challenges through large-scale projects like Rasmalé, and advocate internationally for the rights of the oppressed people of Palestine.

Ibrahim pointed out that under Article 88 of the PNC's foundational charter, if a party member holding the office of President wishes to contest for a second term, they are entitled to receive the ticket without holding a primary.

"Seeing as giving a second presidential term to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is a national duty for the long-term future, benefit, and welfare of the Maldivian nation and all its citizens, I submit this resolution for the PNC High Council to formally adopt and invite him to contest for a second presidential term on behalf of all party members in the 2028 presidential election," the resolution stated.

Following the submission, Ibrahim urged the members to vote and pass the resolution to formally invite President Muizzu to run for a second term in 2028.
