Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu and Nilandhoo MP Fathimath Saudha, who is the sister of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, have been newly elected as Vice Presidents of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).

The election for the PNC vice presidencies took place during a session held this morning at the party's ongoing congress, which commenced yesterday.

A total of 1,095 members cast their ballots in today's vote. Among the incumbent vice presidents seeking re-election, Mohamed Nimal failed to retain his position, while newly contesting candidate Asma Rasheed also was unsuccessful.

Results and Vote Breakdown for PNC Vice-Presidential Candidates:

  • Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu: 968 votes (88%)
  • Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam: 964 votes (88%)
  • Nilandhoo MP Fathimath Saudha: 923 votes (84%)
  • Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau: 862 votes (79%)
  • Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed: 833 votes (76%)
  • Chief Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef: 780 votes (71%)
  • LGA CEO Mohamed Nimal: 301 votes (27%)
  • Maafannu Central MP Asma Rasheed: 288 votes (26%)

Newly contesting Sports Minister Rafiu secured the highest margin of victory with 968 votes, closely followed by Minister Shiyam and Saudha. Asma Rasheed received the lowest vote count among the candidates.
