Maldives Police Service has formally requested the Prosecutor General’s Office to register bring forth charges against a male teacher accused of sexually assaulting students.

The incident, reported on 17th October, occurred at a school in the southern central division, which includes the Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Thaa, and Laamu atolls. Initially described as grooming through inappropriate discussions with students, the case has since escalated to allegations of sexual assault.

The 29-year-old teacher was arrested and presented before a local court, which first remanded him in custody for 20 days. His detention was later extended by an additional 30 days as the investigation continued.

On 25th November, police submitted their request to the Prosecutor General’s Office, seeking formal charges against the suspect. The case underscores ongoing concerns about safeguarding children and ensuring accountability in educational settings.
