Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions has approved the appointment of Mariyam Insha Faisal to the National Integrity Commission (NIC) member.
Insha was nominated to replace Ahmed Jihad, whose term at the NIC recently ended. The Commission’s current members include President Qasim Abdul Karim, Vice President Asiyath Shiuna, and members Aiminath Shadia and Shuaib Abdul Rahman.
The NIC plays a crucial role in upholding the rule of law by investigating misconduct or violations of law and order by law enforcement agencies and their employees. The commission can also act on complaints filed by individuals or initiate investigations independently. In addition, the NIC is entrusted with several other significant responsibilities to ensure transparency and accountability within law enforcement institutions.
Insha’s appointment will be officially confirmed by the President following Parliament approval.
