Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that the leases for businesses on the eastern beach of Hulhumale' could lead to corruption and so they have ordered the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to take action against businesses opposing outside the law.

ACC said that private individuals are using the beach to run businesses without any regulations and some guesthouses are renting the beach area across the road as their own. And no action is being taken by the HDC.

The statement from the ACC said that the HDC did order to clear the beach and some people have complied with it. And while an action planned was made to act against those who did not comply, a decision was made not to take action against them and give a temporary permit to those who did comply with the initial order to remove business from the beach.

ACC said that it was not a responsible decision to give the opportunity make a profit and noted that three main conditions were made on the temporary permit. They are, not to install furniture to the ground, not to build any buildings or roofing and not to conduct any illegal activities banned by any government entity. They are also to allow the use of the furniture for public use without condition and keep the business environmentally friendly.

The Commission said that the beach is a public area where every individual is allowed to use and if businesses are to be permitted at the beach, a valid regulation has to be made and implemented.
