The Center for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) building in Malé City has been officially reopened.

The school reopened after repairs at a ceremony held tonight by President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu.

The old CHSE building was shut down from active academics after opening a new establishment in Hulhumale’, where students were transferred. The old building next to Ameeniya School had become worn down over age.

However, parents raised several concerns over the shift to Hulhumalé, with a majority noting the hassle of commuting to Hulhumalé everyday. Following this, the government has now arranged for students to attend school both in Malé and Hulhumalé.

Although the official opening of the school was held on Monday evening, active learning at the school post renovations began in September.

The school was first opened in 1979 for A-level education. The school started with 30 students as the Science Education Center (SEC). In 1997, President Muizzu also attended the school.

The school was renamed CHSE in 2000. So far, 20,160 students have graduated from the school and 247 students have received presidential scholarships.
