The High Court of the Maldives presented a posthumous award to the late Sheikh Uz Hussain Abdul Rahman, father of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, recognising his distinguished contributions as a High Court Judge and religious scholar.

The award was presented during a ceremony held last night at the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), commemorating the 44th anniversary of the High Court.

In a poignant tribute, a judicial gown was presented as an award for the late judge, symbolising his years of dedicated service. President Dr Muizzu accepted the award on behalf of his father, honouring the legacy of one of the Maldives' earliest High Court Judges.

Late Sheikh Uz Hussain Abdul Rahman’s career in law and religious education was marked by notable achievements. He was appointed as a High Court Judge in 1980, the year the court was founded, and later served as Deputy Attorney General. A law graduate from Al-Azhar University, he was highly regarded for his dedication to both justice and religious scholarship, authoring numerous books that contributed to the educational and cultural fabric of Maldivian society.

In recognition of his dedication to promoting religious education and raising public awareness, late Sheikh Uz Hussain Abdul Rahman was awarded a National Award during the administration of former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed in 2013. His influence as a scholar and legal figure continues to resonate across generations in the Maldives.
