President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed returned to the Maldives today, concluding their five-day state visit to India from 6 to 10 October 2024.
This was President Dr Muizzu's first state visit since taking office in November 2023, at the invitation of Indian President Droupadi Murmu.
During the visit, President Dr Muizzu held high-level discussions with Indian leaders, including President Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and development cooperation. A key outcome was the adoption of "A Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership" to enhance cooperation across various sectors.
The talks covered areas such as social housing, trade, renewable energy, and maritime security. President Muizzu expressed gratitude for India's financial assistance and highlighted opportunities for collaboration in tourism, infrastructure, and economic diversification.
The visit included meetings in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, as well as cultural tours, such as a visit to the Taj Mahal. The President also met with Maldivian communities in India, reaffirming the government's support for citizens abroad.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties ahead of the 60th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations next year.
