Criminal Court sentenced Mohammad Ameer to six days in jail for violating a protection order by using abusive language towards his mother and stepfather.
The order, issued by a magistrate's court in February 2022, prohibited Ameer from verbally attacking his family, making threats, extorting money for drugs, and committing physical assault.
On April 15, 2022, after not receiving money from his mother, Ameer vandalised property in their home, violating the protection order. Although he pleaded not guilty, the court accepted his confession and treated the case as a speedy trial.
During sentencing, the judge emphasised the importance of the protection order in ensuring the safety and well-being of victims of domestic violence. The judge stated that repeated incidents of intimidation had caused significant fear within the family.
Ameer was found guilty under the 'Prevention of Domestic Violence Act' and sentenced to six months in prison. However, as he had already spent eight days in custody during the investigation, his remaining sentence was reduced to five months and 22 days.
