President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has arrived in Mumbai for a series of meetings aimed at boosting trade and tourism between the Maldives and India.
One has come to know that the agenda includes special events later this evening, which will feature the presence of Bollywood celebrities.
During this state visit, India and the Maldives virtually inaugurated key projects and exchanged several agreements, MoUs, and Note Verbales.
Key highlights of the ceremony included:
- The virtual launch of the Rupay Card through a video presentation.
- The inauguration of the newly developed runway at Hanimaadhoo International Airport.
- The official handover of 700 social housing units, constructed under the EXIM Bank of India’s Buyers Credit facility.
Additionally, several agreements were exchanged:
- A Currency Swap Agreement between the Maldives Monetary Authority and the Reserve Bank of India, exchanged by Maldives' Central Bank Governor Ahmed Munawar and India's Secretary of Economic Affairs, Shri Ajay Seth.
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation between the Maldives' National College of Policing and Law Enforcement and India’s Rashtriya Raksha University, exchanged by Maldives' High Commissioner Ibrahim Shaheeb and Dr. Ranjit Kumar, Secretary for Border Management at the Ministry of Home Affairs, India.
- An MoU between the Maldives Anti-Corruption Commission and India’s Central Bureau of Investigation for cooperation in preventing and combating corruption, also exchanged by High Commissioner Shaheeb and Dr. Kumar.
- The extension of an MoU between the Judicial Services Commission of the Maldives and the National Judicial Academy of India, focusing on training and capacity-building for Maldivian judicial officers.
- An extension of the MoU between the Governments of Maldives and India regarding cooperation in sports and youth affairs.
These agreements reflect the growing partnership between the two nations, reinforcing cooperation across multiple sectors.
President Dr Muizzu is accompanied on this trip by the First Lady and a high-level Government delegation.
