Former Football Association of Maldives (FAM) president Bassam Adeel Jaleel has been given a final warning by Maldives Police Service (MPS) not to postpone the deadline for handing over two apartments he bought from Amin Avenue in Hulhumale.
Police said in a statement that Bassam was asked to vacate the two apartments within 136 hours from 10:58 am on 28th October. He requested an extension and the deadline was extended until 12:00 pm yesterday. Bassam has since asked for an extension until this month.
"The said order was requested by Bassam Adeel Jaleel on 04 October 2024. The service has decided that the extension cannot be granted as requested," the police said in a statement.
Police said the two apartments need to be vacated and handed over to the service. If the apartments are not handed over by 12:00 pm tonight, the necessary steps will be taken to take the apartments under police custody within the legal framework.
The police told the media this morning that the court order to hand over the apartments to the police ordered them to respect human dignity and as the apartments are being occupied by both adults and children, they have been considerate towards the occupants,
At a press conference held on September 18 at Iskandar Koshi, Sub-Inspector Ahmed Sawadh from the Department of Economic Crime Investigation shared details of the case. Of that amount, USD 1 million was paid to Amin Avenue.
Sawadh confirmed that the police have requested the Prosecutor General's Office to file charges against three individuals and a company in connection with the case. The individuals involved include Bassam Adil Jaleel, Hassan Waheed (49), and Mohamed Agil (35). The police have also requested charges against Amin Construction Pvt. Ltd.
