The commencement of the third session of Parliament has been postponed to October 14.

In a message to lawmakers, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla announced that the session will now begin on Monday, October 14, due to technical difficulties in broadcasting the proceedings. The delay is caused by the ongoing setup of a new video room required to stream parliamentary sessions.

The session was originally scheduled to begin tomorrow.

Parliament is currently in recess following the completion of the second session. However, an out-of-session meeting was held during the recess in response to a request signed by 50 members of parliament. These meetings were convened to appoint a new Prosecutor General.

During the out-of-session meetings held on September 11, 16, and 17, Abbas Shareef was approved as Prosecutor General. Additionally, the government’s proposal to amend the Companies Act was passed.

At the conclusion of the final out-of-session meeting on September 17, the Speaker had initially announced that the third session would begin on Monday, October 6.

During the first and second sessions of the current 20th Parliament, lawmakers completed 82.9% of the work on 11 out of the 23 bills introduced, before recessing on August 23.
