The Maldives is expected to experience bad weather conditions this week, the Meteorological Office has said.

A MET Office spokesperson informed One today that strong winds are forecasted for the central and northern regions, with wind speeds anticipated to range between 13 and 23 miles per hour.

"The winds will be particularly strong on Tuesday and Wednesday, with speeds potentially reaching between 15 and 25 miles per hour from the atolls up to the northern areas. Typically, wind speeds in the atolls are between 10 and 20 miles per hour. The southernmost regions are currently experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall," the official stated.

The official also mentioned that light to moderate rainfall is expected across the country throughout the week. However, heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in the Malé region today.

"There is a likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Travellers should exercise caution on these days. Wave heights are projected to rise between seven and nine feet in the central and northern areas, while in the south, wave heights will range from three to six feet on average," the spokesperson added.

The MET Office has issued a white alert for the entire nation, warning of thunderstorms and gusty winds between 19 and 24 miles per hour.

Additionally, winds of up to 40 miles per hour and rough seas have been forecasted. The MET Office has advised both land and sea travelers to remain vigilant and cautious in light of the adverse weather conditions.
