Indian media have reported that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is set to visit India in the second week of October on an official trip.

While the President's Office previously announced the visit, specific dates were not provided. However, Indian media reports suggest that Dr. Muizzu will be in India from October 7 to 10.

During the visit, President Dr Muizzu is scheduled to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold discussions with senior officials from the Indian government. This will be his second visit to India, having previously attended Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

Relations between the Maldives and India have faced challenges in recent years. Early in President Dr Muizzu's administration, three Maldivian deputy ministers and other government officials made comments that were perceived as critical of India, leading to a significant decline in Indian tourist arrivals. Despite this, diplomatic efforts have improved relations, and both nations are working toward a positive future.

Other high-level visits between the two countries have also occurred, including trips by Maldivian Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, and India's External Affairs Minister Subramanian Jaishankar.

During a recent visit to the U.S. for the 79th UN General Assembly, President Dr Muizzu addressed concerns over foreign military presence at Princeton University’s Dean's Leadership Series. He clarified that the issue is not about "India Out," but about foreign military personnel stationed in the Maldives. He emphasised that the Maldivian people oppose the presence of any foreign soldiers in their country and reiterated his stance by taking action against those who had made inappropriate comments regarding Prime Minister Modi.
