The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has pledged USD 4.4 million in aid to the Maldives.
In a statement, USAID announced that the funds will be allocated to support the promotion of democracy in the country. Of the total amount, USD 3 million will be directed towards enhancing media literacy programs, strengthening information resilience, and creating a more transparent system within the public and media sectors.
The remaining portion of the aid will focus on raising awareness of democratic rights and collaborating with local organizations and women’s development initiatives.
This commitment was made following a meeting between Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and USAID Administrator Samantha Power during the 79th United Nations General Assembly.
USAID has a history of supporting various development projects in the Maldives, contributing to the nation's growth and democratic efforts.
