Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported an increase in cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a respiratory illness, particularly affecting children.

"We are closely monitoring the rising number of RSV cases in children," HPA stated.

RSV symptoms typically include mild fever, but can also involve coughing, shortness of breath, and a sore throat. If any of these symptoms occur, individuals are advised to consult their doctor promptly.

HPA has urged the public to take preventive measures to limit the spread of the virus. Recommendations include proper handwashing, covering the nose and mouth when coughing, and avoiding crowded places.

RSV poses a higher risk to children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses. Those with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to severe complications.
