More than 4,000 illegal immigrants have been deported in the past ten months, according to figures from the Maldives Immigration.

A total of 4,054 foreigners were deported from November 17 last year to September 17 this year, according to immigration statistics released today.

The highest number of foreigners were deported in June and this month. 690 foreigners were deported in June last year while 663 foreigners were deported in the first 17 days of this month.

The Immigration Department is working to find a quick solution to the problem of illegal immigrants in the Maldives, reduce public health risks and ensure safety and security for the people.

Immigration has conducted special operations to search foreigners' residences and food preparation establishments that pose a threat to public safety and security. In addition, a special operation has been launched to search all places where foreigners live in the Maldives.
