Parliament session has been adjourned for the day after the committee report on Companies Act was submitted to the Parliament.

Today's parliament session will be the third out-of-session session. Today's session was held to give approval to Abbas' appointment as PG and pass the Bill to amend the Companies Act.

Five candidates, including Abbas Shareef, applied for the post of PG.

Following President Dr Muizzu's letter to the Parliament seeking parliament's approval for the appointment of Abbas as PG, an out-of-session session was convened on September 11. Abbas's name was forwarded to the Parliament's Judiciary Committee for further scrutiny. The committee opened the public domain to submit a complaint to parliament by noon yesterday if there was any issue related to Abbas.

Yesterday, the committee interviewed Abbas to see if he had completed the deadline and fulfilled the eligibility criteria. The Judiciary Committee yesterday decided to approve Abbas, who is currently the Legal Secretary to the President's Office.

Manadhoo MP Husnee Mubarak, who heads the judiciary committee, said he had not received any complaints during the public opening to file a complaint against Abbas.

Feydhoo MP Ismail Nizar introduced the bill on behalf of the government to amend Sections 100, 113 and 126 of the Companies Act. After a debate on the bill, the bill was accepted by parliament yesterday and sent to the Economic Committee for further study.

The committee's review of the bill and the report sent to the parliament and the committee's report on abbas's appointment to the post of PG were presented to the parliament by the chairmen of these committees.

The committee report on the amendment to the Companies Act, which was tabled in the first house, was open for discussion, but none of the members wanted to speak. MDP's Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa and MDA's Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas spoke on the committee's report regarding abbas's approval.

Adjourning the session at 0916hrs as no other member asked to speak, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that the two reports would be put to vote at 1100hrs.
