The Business Centre Corporation (BCC) has opened registrations for home-based food businesses.

In a bid to provide opportunities to home-based food businesses, the BCC and the Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) on February 19, began issues logos under the 'policy of issuing logos for food products produced at home to generate revenue'. The policy has now been scrapped and home-based food businesses have been urged to register.

The MFDA has issued a new set of guidelines in this regard.

The BCC has re-opened the registration process after MFDA made it mandatory for those who produce and sell food for their own livelihood to stop issuing logos for home-grown and closed food products for the purpose of earning income.

BCC took the decision in order to ensure that home-based food businesses do not have to face any more hurdles in the process of applying for services and to make it easier for them to avail the services, the corporation said.

As per the MFDA's "Standard of Procedure to Be Followed in The Production and Sale of Food for Personal Livelihood", the authority will have to register for the service through the 'Dhirithi' portal as is already in force.
