President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government's policy for the fisheries industry is to listen to the fishermen's opinions.

The President made the remarks in a video posted on social media by the President's Office announcing that he will meet senior members of the Bodukanneli Masveringe Union.

He said the meeting was important and he was looking forward to it.

He said the government's policy to take forward the large-scale fishing in the country is to listen to the voice of the fishermen in this regard.

"We are looking forward to what will be discussed in today's meeting," he said.

He said the government's aim and the policy of the government would be to ensure that each industry listens to its stakeholders and decides things.

Earlier, the Cabinet had approved the opening of the Maldives for set-line fishing, but the President decided not to implement the decision of the Council of Ministers on August 29, taking into account the submissions made by the Bodukanneli Masveringe Union to the President.

The President's Office had said at the time that the President would soon meet with the union and all other relevant stakeholders to discuss the president's decision.
