Home Minister Ali Ihusaan has said that MD Arafat Hossain, 32, will not be deported until the police investigation into the sale of alleged cat meat is completed.
Speaking at a joint press conference held by the Health Ministry, Home Ministry, and Economic Ministry today, Ihusaan said no case has been reported to the police regarding the sale of cat meat. However, they noted that a case was reported to the police on suspicion of keeping cats at Arafat's residence, Ihusaan said.
"However, the police is investigating the case. He is currently in immigration detention for a visa violation. However, he will not be deported until the police investigation is completed," Ihusaan explained.
Ihusaan said if the investigation receives information that Arafat prepared food from cat meat and sold it, it would be announced publicly. The police investigation has not received any such information so far, he said.
Speaking at the press conference, Health Minister Abdullah Khaleel said the ministry had not yet confirmed that Arafat had prepared food with cat meat. He said the ministry is working to ensure that.
Arafat was arrested on Tuesday and handed over to the Maldives Immigration on charges of killing a cat and selling its meat.
One Online can confirm that Arafat's food is prepared using very unhygienic and expired ingredients. Arafat also sells various types of submarines and burgers in various shops. Many people accuse it of containing cat meat.
