Parliament on Monday passed the resolution to recommend the dismissal of 4 members of Tax Appeal Tribunal.

The complaint letter filed by its member Ismail Sajid in the committee stated that any monetary issue is always overseen by the same bench, and that the Tribunal’s president has wealth that is unaccounted for.

The letter further said that apart from indulging in personal expenses like purchasing apartments and vehicles, the president had also misused his post to arrange meetings with a Thai Central Court Judge through the Embassy.

Sajid’s letter said that the tribunal members also used their ties with the former finance minister to get additional budget for the tribunal, get funds for an advance payment not required to rent the tribunal office, and that the ministry did not look into the tribunal’s finances overall.

Additionally, the letter alleged that the tribunal president and vice president had created a hostile environment for the registrar for voicing out against corruption.

The letter also highlighted wasteful expenses by the tribunal.

The Judiciary Committee reviewed the letter and passed a resolution to recommend the dismissal of 4 members, except for Sajid.

The committee also recommended relocating the tribunal office.

Sixty-three out of 76 members in attendance at the Parliament session voted in favour of the committee’s decision.
