Police stated that former President Abdulla Yameen declined to accept a summon requesting information regarding statements he made about the fire that broke out across three ministries.

In a statement issued today, police noted that during an event on the 5th of this month, Yameen claimed the fire at the building housing three ministries was arson, asserting that police knew the perpetrator and possessed evidence.

Police detailed that officers visited Yameen’s residence, H. Dhoovehi, yesterday around 6:40 PM to meet him and deliver the summons, but he refused to accept it.

"Rather than accepting the summons, he provided a written response referencing his earlier comments. In the letter, he stated that he possesses no additional information regarding the matter and therefore saw no purpose in appearing at the police station," the police statement read.

Police urged all public figures to fully cooperate with investigations within legal boundaries rather than disseminating unverified information that creates negative perceptions of public safety institutions or undermines trust in investigations.

Police added that findings from the investigation into the December 12, 2024 fire confirmed it was caused by an electrical short circuit, with no criminal evidence pointing to any individual.
