Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has noted that hajj quotas have been distributed in a manner which benefited politicians and businessmen in the past.
In their Hajj Research Report 2018, ACC noted the lack of a proper framework to execute hajj pilgrimage procedure, adding that it was crucial for such a framework to exist in order to ensure smooth execution of the process. In their report, the ACC highlighted on findings that suggest that the quotas have been distributed in a manner which benefits politicians and businessmen.
The report was released by ACC member Yazmeedh Mohamed during a special ceremony held at the conference hall of the commission.
The Hajj Research Report 2018 by ACC sheds light on several issues on the arrangement of Hajj pilgrimage. As such people who had registered on the list for Hajj pilgrimage were able to go sooner by paying additional money, which had caused several delays for people who wanted to attend the pilgrimage through Hajj Corporation.
ACC had suggested the Ministry of Islamic Affairs to strengthen and improve certain things and noted the lack of a framework for the procedures. In addition to this, they noted that the works of Hajj Mission and arrangements in Saudi Arabia need to be improved as well as the distribution of hajj quota and financial transactions related to this.
Other points noted in the report include having to act on different rules every year due to the lack of a Hajj Act, which creates a domino effect that delays arrangements regarding the pilgrimage in turn resulting in having to take additional money from the pilgrims.
The main objective of the report was to find ways in which the whole process could be improved and to ensure that it was free of any influences that may result in corruption.
