The Carrom Association of Maldives (CAM) has announced that 10 Maldivian players are preparing for the 6th World Carrom World Cup to be held in California, United States.
The carrom tournament is scheduled to be held from 10th November to 17th November 2024. While CAM has begun their preparations for the tournament, they revealed to One Sports that five male and five female players will be representing the Maldives at the tournament.
All ten players were chosen after a round of selection matches.
The association further revealed that India's Prashant More, a two-time carrom world champion in 2016 and 2018 will be joining the Maldivian national team as a coach from September onwards.
While the CAM is currently working on funding, the association's general secretary Raushan Ahmed told One Sports that the government has already assured they will support the association. He said he had met Sports Minister Abdullah Rafiu, who had assured him that he would provide funding assistance to the association.
In addition, Raushan said he is preparing to seek sponsorship in additional ways.
The national carrom squad is currently preparing to leave for Sri Lanka for US visa applications. The association has also decided to complete a training camp in a place outside of Malé before heading to the World Cup.

Recently, CAM hosted Asia's largest carrom tournament in the Maldives, where Ismail Azmin and Hassan Nazim won the silver medal in the men's doubles final. The men's team won a silver medal and the women's team won a bronze medal.
Maldives is currently ranked third in the world in carrom rankings. This year's Carrom World Cup will also include the World Carrom Federation Congress.
