MNDF has said that 13 million litres of water has been pumped out of Male' city due to heavy rains in the Maldives.
A MNDF official told One today that 13,000 tonnes of water had been pumped from the capital by 0023 hrs.
In addition to this, MNDF said assistance was provided to 208 houses during joint operations conducted by the Male' Area Command and various institutions. MNDF Fire and Rescue Services set up pumps in 10 locations and were able to pump out water from 6 locations by 0001hrs, MNDF said.
MNDF said that all the areas where the MNDF Fire and Rescue Service had installed pumps to pump out water have now returned to normalcy in the wake of heavy rains in the capital.
According to the Met office, Male' city received the maximum rainfall yesterday. It was 89.4 litres of rain.
The MNDF Northern Area Command provided assistance to several northern islands during the heavy rains. MNDF officers have been active HA. Horafushi, Kelaa, Ihavandhoo, HDh. Nolhivaranfaru, Hanimaadhoo and Kulhudhuffushi city.
MNDF Southern Area Command personnel were involved in the rescue operation after heavy rains lashed Addu City Feydhoo and provided assistance to the MNDF Southern Area Command personnel to provide a temporary solution to the destruction of the roof of a house in Hithadhoo.
Multiple households across the country have suffered due to heavy rainfall and flooding. As such, the government has declared today as a holiday.
