India has handed over the completed projects in Addu City to the Government of Maldives.
Addu Land Reclamation, Coastal Protection Project, and Hankede Bridge Project were run under a credit facility from India's Exim Bank.
The projects were inaugurated by Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who is on an official visit to the Maldives, at a special ceremony held at Addu High School today.
A total of 184.3 hectares of land has been reclaimed under the Addu Land Reclamation and Coastal Protection Project, including 80 hectares in two areas of Hithadhoo, 76 hectares in Maradhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo, 3.3 hectares for Addu detour link embankment and 3.8 hectares for tourism purposes.
A total of seven kilometres of large boulders have been erected to protect the beaches of the reclaimed lands, while a total of 4.1 km of geotube has been drilled to protect the beaches of the three islands that were reclaimed for tourism purposes.
The Hankede Bridge Project is part of the project to build the Addu Road and establish a drainage system. The 1.5km long road has been built to connect Hithadhoo Gaukede with Maradhoo near the existing Link Road in the area that includes Hankede.
