As part of his recent visit to Romania, Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has met with the Foreign Minister of Romania, Teodor Meleșcanu.
A joint press release said that the meeting took place in Bucharest, on 10 May 2019 to hold a round of bilateral consultations.
Marking four decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Romania and the Maldives, the two Ministers reviewed the ongoing cooperation and expressed their interest in further consolidating the bilateral relations.
Consultations focused on avenues of cooperation in trade, tourism, education, food industry, as well as on opportunities for exchange of technical expertise in the areas of disaster risk management and climate change. The two chief diplomats also exchanged views on the current state of regional affairs and reiterated their commitment to multilateralism, while agreeing to deepen cooperation in the international fora.
a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Romania and Maldives, which will give impetus to the bilateral political-diplomatic dialogue by establishing a mechanism for regular consultations on bilateral and regional issues.
Minister Abdulla Shahid’s visit to Romania included a courtesy call on the Vice Prime Minister for the implementation of Romania's Strategic Partnerships, Ana Birchall, as well as meetings with the leadership of the Ministry for Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship, the Ministry of Interior Affairs and with the Director General of the Romanian Diplomatic Institute.
