Parliament's Public Accounts Committee's Chairperson, Qasim Ibrahim, has stated that the Committee has been unable to proceed with three bills due to pending information from the state.

The Public Accounts Committee today is expected to take up the work on the state's physical responsibility bill.

At the start of the committee meeting, MP Qasim said that though the pending bills had been sent for comment from the state, the information is still pending.

The administrative desk said Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafiq had requested for more time to comment on the concerns raised in the bill. Some comments on the bill have been divided and the Minister has also said that the central bank's (MMA) comments on the bill have also changed.

Qasim said that out of the three bills in the committee, the parliament has been asked to complete the work on the physical responsibility bill by 13th of this month. However, it has been seven days since the government agencies have been asked to provide the relevant information, he said.

As such, Qasim requested the members to decide the next course of action for the Committee.

Dr. Ahmed Shamheed, MP from Hulhumale' Dhekunu constituency, said that even if the information was pending, work should continue on the bills. He added that the bills can be revised once the relevant information has been received.

However, Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa said it was important to start work on the entire bill simultaneously on Monday after the information has been received from these agencies.

The Committee supported MP Ghafoor's proposal and the meeting was concluded.

In addition to the state's physical responsibility bill, the Committee has the sovereign development fund bill and the state debt bill to settle.
